Mark Laycock
An insatiable love of wood and a desire to own beautiful furniture gave me the drive to teach myself the principles of furniture making.
Having worked as a timber merchant and saw miller I was fortunate to understand wood as a raw material, and over the last 10 years I have learnt and continue to learn the necessary skills for furniture making. I split my time between creating sculptural furniture from highly figured timber such as Burr Elm and Yew, and working on commissioned pieces from clients throughout the UK.
The table shown in the photograph is of Burr Elm and shows perfectly the amazing grain patterns found in this wonderful timber. The top is book matched to give a mirror image effect.
