The Lunacats
The Luna Cats were originally formed in early 2004 with Will, Jack, Wellsy and Daisy out of a dream Wellsy had about playing in suits at garden parties and things of that nature. Soon after song writing had begun Matt joined up and we started playing quite a few shows around town, mostly with the school big band or with Saxual Healing. We ended up playing at the Spa, a Freemasons' BBQ (!) and at lots of churches! Unfortunately when Autumn came we unofficially put the band on hold as no-one could really find any time to practise and shows were few and far between. Luckily, by the time Christmas came Will and Matt had a plan.
They decided to get a lot more people in the band and to take practising seriously again and get good!! So, after much discussion we decided we'd get Jess, Kyle, Lewis, Becki and Megan to join up, broadening our rhythm section, our lead section and the amount of songs available to us to play. After many a long practise session in Will's living room we got a show at the Victoria Hotel in Robin Hoods Bay with Saxual Healing. We played for half an hour and we all felt it went really well, as did the audience (or so they say!) We hope to play some cool gigs in the future and have lots of fun!

Jess Hogarth - Clarinet
Matt Anderson - Alto Saxophone
Daisy Barber - Flute
David Fester - Trumpet*
Jack Hogarth - Electric Guitar
Kyle Waterfield - Electric Guitar
Lewis Hughes - Piano
Richard Wells - Electric Bass/Acoustic Guitar
Will Barber - Drums
[Megan Townshend also sings for us occasionally and has played piano too.] (* David is a new member, and his first show with us will probably be the Swedish Exchange party)
About our music: In the belief that each and every style of music has something good to offer, we are influenced by a wide variety of styles. We are usually classed as a jazz band because of the nature of our lead instruments (sax, clarinet and flute) and we do play quite a bit of jazz, but we also play a lot more. Members of the band listen to: jazz, soul, motown, funk, ska, ska punk, classic rock, bebop, swing, singer/songwriter, blues, R&B, reggae, punk rock, rock and fusion. So as you can see we have to draw on a wide variety of styles to keep everyone happy! We play a mixture of covers, variations and originals.
