The house and surrounding area

Just 6 miles from Whitby, this is the ideal location for a family gathering or special occasion near the coast.

Named after a Scandinavian mythical god in the shape of an ash tree, Igdrasil is a large, detached Victorian home and is ideal for that long awaited family gathering or to celebrate a special occasion. Retaining many original features, the property has large lawned and landscaped gardens affording delightful views over the cliffs to the sea in Robin Hood’s Bay. Bright spacious rooms are comfortably furnished with a warm home from home feel. Located just ½ mile from the popular village of Robin Hood’s Bay, where inns, tea rooms, antique and curio shops line the streets. The alleyways and ginnels are home to ancient fishermen’s cottages clinging to the cliff edge, all leading down to the shore, an ideal place for a family day at the beach where children will love fossil hunting. This holiday property is perfectly located for exploring both the North York Moors National Park and the Heritage coast of Yorkshire, Whitby is just 6 miles and is known for its connections with Captain James Cook. Boasting a 3-mile stretch of sandy beach, a colourful harbour and marina, all overlooked and almost protected by the 12th-century abbey ruins and St Mary’s church. Park the car and board the steam train, where you can enjoy a memorable journey through the stunning Esk Valley into the well known villages of Grosmont and Goathland, made famous by the TV series ’Heartbeat’. Discover fishermen’s coves of Runswick Bay and Staithes to the north, where as to the south is the more elegant seaside resort of Scarborough; fun fairs, amusements, parks and donkey rides on the beach are all here. Venture onto the North York Moors just a few miles from the door, where bridle paths and cycle paths abound, and pretty little villages tucked away deep in the valleys are home to country pubs and inns, serving some of Yorkshire’s finest cuisine and friendly locals wait to greet you. Market towns of Pickering, Kirkby Moorside, Helmsley and Guisborough still host the weekly markets and are easily accessed. Historic homes, halls and castles surround the area, and there are art galleries, museums and theatres all available. Golf enthusiasts will love the challenging 18-hole cliff top course located in Whitby. The 9-hole putting green in the garden will entertain the family for hours on a summer’s evening. Relax with a glass of wine and enjoy the magical twinkling lights of passing ships. Beach 1 mile. Shop ½ mile, pub and restaurant 100 yards.

Oh what a house! From the minute we walked in we were all mesmerized! Mick and I got the house to get married from with all our kids grandchildren and best friends. The house was clean. Every thing you needed was there. The kindling was all ready sorted in fire place to get fire going . Sugar, coffee, tea, zillions of plates, cups, pans, tea towels, dishwasher tablets, just everything!!!! The house is huge, a kids paradise! We didn't tell anyone about the internet access for the first evening and our 20 year olds got the jigsaws out! The teens went into one front room and old people sat in front of fire in the other! Bliss. Beds comfy, rooms huge. Bathrooms very adequate, water hot, house warm and getting heating on easy. The garden is beautiful but it was too rainy and windy for us to make use of the bbq and patio area. Lots of Nik naks which we all loved looking at, pictures of the owners and other family members were great to see. I cant say that we disliked anythi g. I would possibly like a few more lamps in the lounges, a four slice toaster rather than a two slice and possibly in the winter the heating turned on before we got there (but once on it was just the most warm house!) so if that is all I have to mention id say yup, it was brilliant. The morning we left I cried, we had had the most wonderful wedding in the bay with all our family there staying in a magical house. Id like to rent it for a Xmas one year. Thank you

The house was a great base for a family holiday. Very spacious and comfortable with lots areas for groups to be together or for people to find some quieter space. The garden is amazing with loads of space, a very safe and secure area for children and the family dog to spend hours playing in, while the adults relaxed on the patio area. The kitchen is well equiped with big pans and a wide selection of utensils - just beware the low extractor fan when cooking. We had a great week and the great weather was the icing on the cake.

Lovely holiday spending time in Robin Hood's Bay, Whitby and on walks in area. Whole family found great things to do & Igdrasil was the perfect base. Lots of space in the house itself & the massive garden topped it off. Fabulous space for all the family.

Best house we've ever rented for big family holiday (16 people, 2 dogs). The huge and more or less hazard-free garden was enjoyed by all. House was a lot of fun too, with all kinds of quirky memorabilia, but also well equipped for practical needs. Easy access on foot to sea and shops at Robin Hood's Bay. House located in pleasant village, with good convenience store, although we somehow missed (until too late) the information that there's also a butcher/baker further down the road. Would love to stay there again.

My family and I had a fabulous time at Igdgrsil. The house was clean, homely and well equipped throughout and enough room for all 14 of us to have our own space. Roland was a great host making sure all the information was available to us and being on hand if we had any questions. Hope to back again for another special occasion.

A wonderful weekend spent in an amazing house. The location was stunning, with amazing views of the sea over the beautiful garden. How exciting to see the tour de Yorkshire racing past the front door. The house was perfect and the eclectic ornaments were a great talking point Loved the music, especially the King Rolo cd! Thanks for the wine and chocs, a lovely touch.

Great place for our 50th birthday get together, the house was quirky and comfortable and all the bedrooms a good size. The garden was safe for the dogs, there are sea views, easy walking distance to Robin Hood's Bay and we enjoyed the round of golf! Kitchen well equipped, (we had no issues with the 2 fridges), house very clean and the logs provided were very welcome.
